Plastic
Providing Lightweight and Adaptable Service Technology for pervasive Information and Communication.
The PLASTIC project wishes to create an integrated platform, both in terms of specifications and in terms of functionality that will ease the application of service-oriented architecture in wireless networks with special interest in B3G networks. Successful examples of Web Services find great difficulties when being applied on popular devices with limited computational power, e.g. mobile devices. In order to ensure inter-operability among different applications it is needed to use protocols with a high degree of information overhead (e.g. XML) but also to apply common security standards among communicating parties. This imposes great limitations on devices with limited capabilities. PLASTIC envisions making the current mobile devices networks more effective by providing a middleware enabling the creation of highly adaptable services in dynamic and pervasive environments. The user of wireless networks should be able to see the Internet as an explorable and discrete collection of services and be sure to enjoy them in the quality of service and the security level that satisfies his needs.
