High Availability Mechanisms for Voice over IP (VoIP) Infrastructures.

An important step towards providing Internet services is to ensure the reliability and security of these services. This includes the usage of extra servers to overcome hardware and software failures; more connections to overcome network congestion and secure access to servers and databases in order to avoid malicious hackers; firewall setup and intrusion detection solutions to detect and prevent Denial of Service (DoS) attacks. In this framework, The HAVI project aims to study: a) security impact on VoIP reliability (threats analysis, policies and signatures, secure VoIP communication among various providers, interaction between QoS and security mechanisms, observation-control) and b) reliable VoIP Infrastructures (VoIP mutual dependencies and error sources, hardware nad software failure control, usage of failover mechanisms, data replication, users authentication in cases of failure, reliable maintenance of VoIP session).
